Haha! You thought this blog had just been allowed to quietly fizzle away and die like all blogs eventually do. Not yet my friend. I’m not sure exactly what happened, but somehow six months have flown by and I find myself writing about the twins as they are now just over 13 months old! Wowzers!
Lots of updates to bore you with, but if you just want to see cute photos, you can scroll straight to the bottom of this page… Go ahead, I won’t be offended.
So. What’s happened? Well, they both started crawling and Hatty just this last week, walking. Having advanced to world of bipedalism, it’s pretty much all she wants to do now, and she’ll cheerfully spend an evening staggering back and forth between me and Anita. Wilf still not walking, but we suspect not far off. Although Hatty felt ‘not far off’ for about 3 months, so who knows? Loads more teeth. And therefore loads more teething pains. An ever growing list of words and animal noises. Particular favourites are “roar!”, as in a lion and “brrm!” as in the noise a car makes… They’re both growing and developing in all the ways they’re supposed to. Although Hatty remains physically bigger than Wilf and will, we suspect, be taller than him at least into their teenage years.
The last couple of months have also felt the most difficult yet. Fuelled by a mammoth run of colds, stomach bugs and bouts of teething, sleep has become a real challenge. Also compounded by general development and of course the old two babies scenario. I don’t know if it’s normal to regress like this, but we definitely felt like we were starting to get to grips with sleep and parenthood generally by around six months. All that seems like a distant dream now however – we’ve battled through our deepest emotional lows recently, tormented by sleep deprivation and with what felt like no end in sight. Anita has been an absolute trooper, continuing with breastfeeding them in the nights, which was especially comforting during their illnesses, but which took it’s toll on us.
Mercifully, with a bit of a sleep plan in place and a decent break in illnesses, we seem to have turned a corner in the last week or two and the general consistency and quality of sleep seems on the up… We’re still waiting for that elusive night where both of them sleep unbroken for more than 6 hours or so, but it doesn’t feel quite such a ludicrous concept any more.
Other stuff wot happened includes; a couple of holidays in the UK (challenging but mostly fun), a double baptism (by the wonderful Dave at St Luke’s in London), buying and loving our double bike trailer (currently scheming a mini bike tour with twins for some time next summer!), their actual first birthday (big cake, entirely eaten by adults) and lots and lots of other wonderful, adorable moments…
Here’s to the next 12 months. Happy Christmas everyone and best wishes for 2017!
Alright, here are the photos.
